What do umpires do?

In Alaska, umpires are specialists that serve as unprejudiced referees between two insurance claims appraisers that are failing to negotiate. Alaska umpires are often private insurance appraisers, insurance attorneys, or public adjusters that have the insurance knowledge necessary to accurately mediate the disputed claim.

For instance, if you live in Alaska and feel like an insurance settlement is wrong, you may hire your own insurance claims appraiser. Now, what would happen if the two insurance claims appraisers' bids are dramatically different? They might be able to negotiate a reasonable settlement. But if the insurance appraisers can't, then that's where an umpire comes in. Efficient insurance umpires understand Alaska's remodeling industry, local building codes, and correlated costs. Look for an Alaska umpire who is knowledgeable about the issues that mean the most to you.

While the Alaska Division of Insurance rules insurers, umpires are not usually licensed in any state. Though particular umpire licensing is not required by Alaska, most umpires hold a variety of licenses and certificates. For example, if the umpire is also an independent public insurance adjuster, then he has met Alaska's insurance processes for that profession. In addition, insurance attorneys must uphold their law licenses.
