What do umpires do?

In Florida, umpires are professionals that act as unprejudiced moderators between two insurance claims appraisers that cannot agree. Florida umpires are often private insurance claims appraisers, insurance attorneys, or independent public insurance adjusters that have the insurance evaluations knowledge necessary to size up the disagreed upon claim.

For instance, if you live in Florida and feel an estimated total is wrong, you might hire your own claim appraiser. Consider what would happen if the two claim appraisers' quotes are significantly different. They may or may not be able to negotiate a just settlement. If the insurance estimators cannot reach an agreement, then that's where an umpire plays an important role. Efficient insurance umpires appreciate Florida's construction business, local building codes, and correlated charges. Look for a Florida umpire who is educated about the insurance claims concerns that matter the most to you.

While the Florida Department of Financial Services governs insurers, umpires are not generally licensed in any state. While particular umpire licensing is not required by Florida, most umpires hold professional credentials. For instance, if the umpire is also a public adjuster, then he has met Florida's licensing requirements for insurance agents and adjusters for the profession. Likewise, insurance attorneys must sustain their attorney's licenses.
