What do umpires do?

In Montana, umpires are experts that serve as fair and unbiased negotiators between two insurance appraisers that are not able to come to an agreement. Montana umpires are often independent claim appraisers, insurance attorneys, or independent public insurance adjusters that have the insurance calculations knowledge required to evaluate the dubious claim.

For example, if you live in Montana and think an insurance settlement is not correct, you might hire your own insurance estimator. Now, what happens when the two insurance estimators' figures and calculations are spectacularly different? They may be

able to negotiate a reasonable settlement. However if the insurance claims appraisers cannot, then that's where an umpire becomes necessary. While the Montana State Auditor's Office monitors insurance carriers, umpires are not typically licensed in any state. While exact umpire licensing is not required by Montana, most umpires have related professional credentials. For example, if the umpire is also an independent public insurance adjuster, then he has met Montana's insurance licensing requirements for that specific profession. Similarly, insurance attorneys must uphold their law licenses.
