What do umpires do?

In Ohio, umpires are professionals that act as unprejudiced negotiators between two insurance estimators that disagree. Ohio umpires are often independent claim appraisers, insurance attorneys, or independent public insurance adjusters that have the insurance estimating in-depth knowledge needed to assess the dubious claim.

For instance, if you live in Ohio and feel like an estimated total is incorrect, you might hire your own insurance claims appraiser. Now, what would happen if the two claim appraisers' approximations are noticeably different? They might be able to bargain for a fair final offer. However if the claim appraisers cannot, then that's where an umpire becomes necessary. Qualified insurance umpires realize Ohio's contracting industry, local and state building codes, and interconnected expenditures. Look for an Ohio umpire who is up-to-date about the insurance claims issues that mean the most to you.

While the Ohio Department of Insurance monitors insurers, umpires are not typically licensed in any state. While specific umpire licensing is not required by Ohio, most umpires hold qualified credentials. For instance, if the umpire is also an independent public insurance adjuster, then he has met Ohio's insurance rules for his primary profession. Likewise, insurance attorneys must maintain their attorney's licenses.
