What do Utah umpires do?

In Utah, umpires are insurance professionals that serve as independent moderators between two claim appraisers that cannot come to a negotiated agreement on their own. Utah umpires are often private claim appraisers, insurance attorneys, or independent public insurance adjusters that have the insurance assessments in-depth knowledge required to evaluate the dubious claim.

For instance, if you live in Utah and feel an estimated total is not accurate, you may hire your own insurance claims appraiser. Now, what happens when the two claim appraisers' estimates are significantly different? They might be able to bargain for a reasonable settlement. While the Utah Insurance Department regulates insurance carriers, umpires are not usually licensed in any state. While particular

umpire licensing is not required by Utah, most umpires hold qualified licenses. For instance, if the umpire is also an independent public insurance adjuster, then he has met Utah's licensing requirements for insurance adjusters for that profession. In addition, insurance attorneys must sustain their attorney's licenses.
